Anne "Nancy" Ritschard Hall, age 93, lifelong resident of Riverton, NJ passed peacefully at her home on January 28, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born June 5, 1930, to the late Elizabeth (nee' Miller) and Victor A. Ritschard. She grew up in Riverton, where her family traced its roots to the original founders, and attended Westfield Friends elementary school and Moorestown Friends high school. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Swarthmore College and obtained her teaching credentials from Vassar College.
Nancy enjoyed sailing throughout her life and was a lifetime member of Riverton Yacht Club, which is where she met her husband, William "Bill" Hall. She was a proud fourth generation member of The Porch Club of Riverton where she was very active and had received recognition as their Woman of the Year. She also volunteered for many years as a candy striper at Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital in Riverside, NJ, which was established by her Swiss immigrant uncle Theophilus Zurbrugg. Nancy was a longtime member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, Riverton, and volunteered her time at the thrift shop on Main St. in Riverton.
Nancy applied her teaching skills by establishing and operating the Hobby Horse Nursery School from her home in Riverton from 1961 to 2006. She had a positive impact on generations of children from Riverton, Palmyra, Cinnaminson and surrounding areas. Nancy was honored as the Parade Marshall for the Riverton 4th of July Children's Parade upon her retirement in 2006, and she enjoyed participating in the annual parade and 4th of July activities throughout her life.
Nancy and her husband Bill were very active in Riverton and enjoyed many hobbies together including their love of square dancing, bicycling and camping. She was well known for her love of gardening, especially growing prized tomatoes, raspberries and lima beans.
Nancy and Bill were also very involved in helping establish and support Urban Promise, a Christian-based charter school in Camden, NJ, where they not only volunteered their time, but were honored with the establishment of the Bill & Nancy Hall Scholarship Fund to foster education for youth in the community.
Nancy was extremely proud of her Swiss Heritage and, together with her brother, John Ritschard, owned a chalet in Switzerland. She loved her regular trips there and especially enjoyed hosting family and friends to share with them the beauty of the alps she so loved. Nancy and Bill were also instrumental in introducing the Bernese Mountain Dog breed to the United States when they brought their first dog from Switzerland and raised litters that spread this beautiful breed throughout the US. Nancy proudly obtained her Swiss Citizenship in 2015.
