*VISITATION AND SERVICES FOR BARBARA HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED*
*PLEASE SEE BELOW*
Barbara Steedle (nee Clyde) passed away peacefully on Feb 11 th , she was 86.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Eric) Davies; grandsons, Eric Jr. (Brittany), Daniel and Kevin Davies as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Helen Clyde, sister Carolyn Novak and brother Thomas Clyde.
Barbara was born in Germantown, PA and raised in Montgomery Co., PA, where she attended Springfield Twp. HS. In HS, Barbara was a member of varsity field hockey, basketball and tennis teams, and co-captain of the field hockey team. Barbara also worked on the school yearbook and was a member of the National Honor Society.
She continued her education at West Chester State Teachers College (West Chester University), earning her B.S. in Health Education with a minor in English. She was also a member of the field hockey and basketball teams.
Barbara began her teaching career as a middle school English and PE teacher in the Springfield School District. After their marriage in '59, Barbara and Bob lived in Flourtown, PA for several years then moved to Palmyra, NJ with their daughter, Patti in '64.
Barbara took a hiatus from teaching for several years in order to be a "stay at home mom" until Patti entered high school. Barbara always cherished those days spent with Patti and her friends. There were walks to the river, picnics, art and craft projects, hours of fun baking cookies at Christmas time, and many sleep-over parties with giggly girls!!
Barbara continued to play competitive field hockey as a club player with a women's team on Montgomery Co., PA. After moving to NJ, she joined the Moorestown Pecan hockey team, continuing to play with them for many years, and also played softball with a local women's team.
When Patti entered high school, Barbara was fortunate to be hired by the Palmyra School District, teaching PE and Language Arts at the Charles St. Middle School, and also coached varsity field hockey, basketball and girls track at Palmyra HS. She was honored by the S.J. Coaches of Women's Sports in 1983, the year the girls track team won the Freedom Division Championship. She was inducted into the Palmyra HS Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006.
After retiring in June 1990, Barbara remained an active Life Member of NEA/NJREA/BCREA, serving BCREA as co-chair of BCREA Beacon, chair BCREA Mall Expo, and member of the Scholarship Committee and the BCREA 50 th Birthday Committee. Barbara was inducted into Eta Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in 1989, and was recipient of the Eta Chapter Key Award.
Although Barbara was very proud of the honors she received as a teacher and athlete, those who knew her well will tell you that life for Barbara centered around family… Bob; Patti, Eric, grandsons, Eric, Dan and Kevin. For years, many hours were spent proudly supporting whatever activity her grandsons were involved in. Family gatherings were always looked forward to as the boys could be counted on to entertain with their spontaneous humor.
Bob and Barb enjoyed working together on many projects around their home. They also enjoyed riding their bikes and walking in the area, or just sitting on the porch or patio whenever the weather was nice. During the spring and summer months, Barb would spend hours working in the vegetable or flower gardens, and they both enjoyed frequent trips to Ocean City.
