Obituary

Bernard "Bernie" Swiderek, 49, of Moorestown, NJ, passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2025.

Born in Riverton and a graduate of Holy Cross High School, Bernie built a life grounded in hard work, quiet strength, and deep love for his family. After several years in landscape design, he found his long-term professional home at Williams Gas Pipeline Transco in Princeton, where he worked for more than two decades as a Natural Gas Pipeline Technician.

Bernie was the definition of reliable—always ready to lend a hand, offer a tool, or fix whatever was broken. He took pride in his home, especially the yard, and was the neighbor everyone turned to when something needed doing. His resourcefulness was matched only by his heart.

In his younger years, Bernie raced motocross, and though he eventually hung up the helmet, his love for the sport never faded. He remained a dedicated fan, often watching races with the same passion he brought to everything he cared about.

At his core, Bernie was a family man. A devoted husband and proud father, he found joy in the everyday moments—grilling in the backyard, cheering from the sidelines, or relaxing with loved ones on vacations to Long Beach Island and Siesta Key. He was steady, generous, and fiercely loyal, with a dry wit and a quiet warmth that made people feel safe and seen.

He was a terrible golfer by all accounts—but never did a man love driving the golf cart more. Whether chauffeuring the crew around the course or just enjoying the ride, Bernie made it fun just to tag along.

Bernie is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine "Katie" Dougherty, and their children, Abigail "Abby" and Macklin "Mack" Dougherty, who were the center of his world. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Pike; the longtime partner of Bernie Sr., Lynnie Coleman; his siblings, Christin Jones (Robert) and Matthew Swiderek; and his nephews, Aidan and Cole.

He shared a special bond with his cousin and lifelong friend Joe Swiderek, along with Joe's wife, Michelle, and their sons, Ethan and Ryan. Their deep-rooted connection brought Bernie immense comfort and happiness.

Bernie was also deeply loved by his extended family: in-laws Dorisanne and Robert Sundermier; brother-in-law Sean Dougherty (Margaret); nieces Lily and Grace; and close friends Duane and Cindy Jones and their daughters Madison (Sean McMullen), Emily, and Olivia—along with many others who became like family through the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard J. Swiderek.
