Obituary

Born on February 2, 1953, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bruce spent most of his life in Burlington, New Jersey. He was the beloved son of Viola McKee and Joseph Bishop.

Bruce earned his master's degree in psychology from Rutgers University and originally hoped to become a teacher. Instead, he built a dedicated career with the Department of Defense in Philadelphia, where he worked hard throughout the years to provide for and support his family.

He was the devoted husband of Susan L. Bishop and a loving father to Heather M. Bishop and Travis M. Bishop (Natalie Ethington). Bruce was also a proud grandfather to Noah Schonewolf, Madalin Donnelly, and Lily Ethington, all of whom brought tremendous joy to his life. Being with them brought out his playful side, and he never missed a chance to make them laugh—often tickling them until their bellies hurt.

Bruce was heavily involved in Heather and Travis's lives while they were growing up, serving as their soccer coach, basketball coach, and Cub Scout leader. He believed strongly in putting family first and was always there for the people he loved, no matter what.

Known affectionately as "Dumpy," Bruce had a unique sense of humor and always found a way to bring laughter into everyday moments. Whether through a quick comment, a joke, or simply his perspective on life, he had a way of making those around him smile, often when they needed it most.

Bruce loved listening to music, going for "River Runs," walking the boards in Seaside with his family, and enjoying pizza at Sawmill, hot Mart pretzels, and Rita's Water Ice. He also enjoyed watching basketball, especially Duke basketball, and had an amazing left hook on the court that was nearly impossible to block. He also enjoyed relaxing with a Bloody Mary or a vodka lemonade among family and friends.

Bruce will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, dedication to his family, and the countless memories he created with those he loved most. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.
