Obituary

Charles V. Thompson, age 82, of Somerdale, NJ, formerly of Palmyra, NJ passed peacefully at his home on March 24, 2026.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to Margaret (nee' Pierson) and William Thompson in 1943, Charlie grew up in Riverside Park, Delran, NJ and was a proud graduate of Riverside High School, Class of 1961.

Charlie went on to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, proudly serving from 1962 to 1966 as an aircraft mechanic where he was assigned to maintaining President Lyndon B. Johnson's airplane, AirForce One. During his service he married Alice Durant of Riverside in 1964 and they began their family.

After his military service Charlie and Alice returned to Delran and ultimately settled in Palmyra to raise their children, Lori and Bobby. Charlie was dedicated to his family and whatever his children were involved in, he was too. He coached each of their Pal-Riv teams including Soccer and Baseball. He always volunteered to help with their activities and never missed a school trip. Charlie was also dedicated to his community as a longtime volunteer member of the Palmyra Ambulance Association, where he also served as Chief for many years.

Charlie and Alice loved to travel and did so for many years in their motorhome, where they visited 49 of our 50 States, all but Hawaii. Charlie especially enjoyed their visit to Alaska and the regular trips with the whole family to Myrtle Beach, SC.  He cherished his time with his family, whether it was country line dancing with Alice, Lori & Jake, or just enjoying time watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play and have fun.

Charles was predeceased by his beloved son, Robert W. Thompson, Sr., and is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alice Thompson, and loving daughter, Lori Lippincott and son-in-law, Jake Lippincott.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Robert W. Thompson, Jr., Jonelle Huelster (Kevin), Amanda Thompson and Ashlee Crowe (Austin), along with his great-grandchildren, Molly, Robert W. III and Nevaeh Thompson, Brayden and Madelyn Huelster, Ryan James "R.J." and Hayden Thompson and Amelia, Axel and Alaina Crowe. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Pashley, sister-in-law Sharon Brauckmann and husband Donny, nieces and nephews, Amy, Jill, Michael, Tracy, Sherry, Eddie, Billy and their families, as well as many friends.

In addition to his parents and his son, Charlie was also predeceased by his sister Catherine Mueller, brother-in-law Richard Mueller, brother-in-law Edward Pashley, and daughter-in-law Susan Thompson (nee Coursen).
