Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Williamson Lueders, III, recently of Delanco, NJ but a 50+ year resident of Moorestown, NJ, passed away on December 15, 2019 at the age of 80.

Chuck was born on September 3, 1939 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Charles Williamson Lueders, Jr., a graduate of Lehigh University, and Deborah Wolcott Lueders, a graduate of Vassar College. His father was working at the Irvin Works of U.S. Steel at the time of Chuck's birth. The family later moved to western Illinois near St. Louis, and during WWII they went to Detroit, where Charles, Sr. had a defense job testing tank armor at American Steel Foundries before being called to duty at the Army's Tank & Automotive Center, also in Detroit. After the war, Chuck and his family lived briefly with his paternal grandparents in Bala Cynwd, PA, but soon moved to Riverton, NJ, where Chuck grew up.

He attended Moorestown High and graduated from Penn Charter before going on to earn his bachelor's degree from Lehigh University in 1961. In September of that year, he married Elizabeth Lewis Rupkey of Bethlehem, PA, with whom he had two children. They divorced in 1983.

Chuck began his career with the State of New Jersey as a social worker. Eventually he earned his Master's degree in social work administration from Rider University and was a systems analyst and manager with the State by the time he retired in 1993. In the late 1990's, he worked as a consultant addressing Y2K computer issues in anticipation of the new millennium. Thereafter, he spent most of his time enjoying life with his beloved wife, Karen Stewart Lueders. The two met at work and dated for three years in the early-1980's before getting back together in the late-'90's. In 2012, he and Karen married in a lovely ceremony in San Francisco, CA before honeymooning in Hawaii.

A motorcycle enthusiast, Chuck rode extensively in the U.S. as well as in Canada and Europe. He and Karen loved the natural beauty of Eagles Mere, PA, where they owned a home passed down by his parents. They spent many happy vacations there and in Long Beach Island, NJ, where he adored swimming in the ocean. A French history buff, he was widely recognized for his expertise in the historic coinage of France and French India. His lifelong love of jazz music began in college. He had a passion for food and was an excellent cook. A talented painter, he took up blacksmithing later in life with gusto. His youthful exuberance and profound intellectual curiosity brought immeasurable joy to himself and those around him.

Chuck is survived by his adoring wife, Karen, his children - Lynne (Lueders) Moses and Stuart Lueders, his grandchildren Michael Moses, Anne Moses and Ellice Lueders, plus an aunt, five cousins, and those cousins' families. His is also mourned by son-in-law Ben Moses, daughter-in-law Hildegard Lueders and a host of friends and acquaintances fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
