Ed was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1924 to his parents Edna and Edward Hill. As a child the family moved to the Delair section of Pennsauken Township, NJ, where Ed remained a lifelong resident. Ed was a graduate of Palmyra High School, class of 1942.

Immediately following high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy to proudly serve his Country during World War II. Ed was an original Plank Owner serving on the inaugural crew of the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier. Throughout WWII, he remained on the USS Intrepid deployed in the Pacific Theater of Operations with involvement in several key battles, including Leyte Gulf and Okinawa. He was extremely proud of his service to our country and regularly attended Anniversary Celebrations and Reunions for the USS Intrepid, including earlier this year for 80th Anniversary Celebrations where he was recognized as one of the very few remaining from the inaugural crew.

Ed began his career with the Merchantville Pennsauken Water Commission in 1959 remaining there until his retirement in 1986 as the Chief Operator. He became, and remained, an active member and past officer of the F.W. Grigg American Legion Post 68 Merchantville-Pennsauken.
