Edward Cahill Hughes, age 77, of Cherry Hill, NJ passed peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024, after battling several chronic illnesses.
Edward was born on Friday, September 13, 1946, to Margaret (nee Dugan) and John Hughes in Riverton, NJ, where he was raised. After graduating from LaSalle University in 1968, Ed entered the Air Force, serving for three years, where he fostered his love of piloting planes.
In 1976 he married his high school sweetheart, Marianne E. McGurk, in Merchantville, NJ, sharing 48 years of marriage. Together, they adopted two wonderful children, Kevin and Kathryn.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Marianne, and children, Kevin Hughes and Kathryn Hughes. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Suzanne Faulk (Warren) and Kathleen Santoro, and brother-in-law, Eugene McGurk, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents, his brother Jack and sister-in-law, Marie.
Edward will forever be remembered for his interests in fast cars, loud music, jet planes and his love of 4th of July in Riverton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his services on Monday, July 22, 2024 all at Christ Our Light Parish, 402 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, E. Camden Avenue, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his memory to Mahpiya Luta (formerly Red Cloud Indian School), 100 Mission Drive, Pine Ridge, South Dakota 57770 (mahpiyaluta.org), an organization that Edward passionately supported.
