Obituary

Eli Winford McCarter, Jr. passed from our world Monday, November 18, 2024.

Born July 22, 1935, in Mount Holly, New Jersey, to Eli Winford McCarter and Marie (Chambers) McCarter, Eli (Wink) was the first of four children with sisters Barbara (McCarter) Poinsett, JoAnne (McCarter) Dallman and brother Ronald McCarter.

Eli completed his primary education through Palmyra Public Schools graduating in 1953 and began working locally with Millside Dairy in Cinnaminson.  In 1956 Eli joined American Telephone and Telegraph working with AT&T for 40 years through the divestiture to New Jersey Bell.  Initially employed as a Lineman he ultimately worked with the computerization of the AT&T system into larger business projects and hospitals in New Jersey. Throughout his career he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Eli was married January 7, 1956 and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jane Winifred (Adams) McCarter; son Eli Winford McCarter III; daughters Jane Marie McCarter and Amy Jo

(McCarter) Brown. Eli was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Beth (McCarter) McQuaid (March 31, 1959 - August 7, 2016) and son, Aaron Wade McCarter (April 23, 1963 - January 23, 2017). Eli and Jane were blessed with 10 grandchildren.

Eli and Jane enjoyed worldwide travels from camping to cruising inclusive of a decade of adventuring in the green school bus throughout the United States and Canada. Travels with the bus include coast to coast visiting over half the National Parks of the United States.

Eli engaged in a variety of community support and interests including Sauken Archers; Palmyra Ambulance Association; and unfailing support of the profusion of interests of his family inclusive of Boy Scouts, Swimming, Canoeing, National Rifle Association, First Aid Education, Camping and the weekly public library run. Most especially Eli could be relied upon as that Dad who taught, transported, and supported his family and neighbors in their skills and adventure pursuits.

An attentive man we could always rely upon Eli's genuine kindness and quiet support as he moved through life. We remember him best as that generous soul who truly lived his stated belief "it is my job to care for you".

Funeral services were held privately. Condolences and remembrances of Eli may be shared with his family at www.weberfuneralhomeinc.com .  Arrangements made by Weber Funeral Home, Riverton, NJ 08077.
