Jean S. O'Brien (nee' Slowakiewicz), age 75, of Palmyra, NJ and Wildwood Crest, NJ, passed surrounded by her family on December 23, 2023.
Jean was born to Stella (nee' Bulcavage) and Stan Slowakiewicz in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Northeast Philadelphia. Jean was a lifelong and active member of St. Valentine's Polish National Catholic Church, Phila., where she was part of tightknit Polish Community. She graduated from Lincoln High School where she was active with the music program and member of the Philadelphia All City Choir, even performing at the Academy of Music in her Senior year. Jean went on to earn her degree and teaching certificate from West Chester State College for Teachers (now West Chester University) then began her teaching career with the Bensalem School District. For over 40 years, Jean was a teacher for the district spending her entire career at the same school, Benjamin Rush Elementary, teaching in the 3rd grade.
Jean and her husband, Bill, moved to Palmyra, NJ in 1978 to raise their family. She loved to sing and enjoyed hosting the family's annual Christmas Carol Sing during the holiday season. Jean was talented at Knitting and Crocheting, known to have "the fastest hands in the East" and was meticulous with her needle work. She had a lifelong love of Jersey Shore, spending her summers in college working at Uncle Lou's Restaurant in North Wildwood, and ultimately realizing her dream of retiring there at the family's longtime home in Wildwood Crest.
Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, William "Bill" C. O'Brien, Jr., and their daughters, Sarah O'Brien (Michael DeNote) and Meredith O'Brien (Matthew Hinsey), and stepdaughters, Dawn Grothmann (Mark) and Lauren Bonomi (Flavio). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Evelyn, Chip, Billy, Sullivan, Briar and Aurora, her step-grandchildren, Bryn, C.J., Morgan, Alex and Isabella. Also surviving are her six great-grandchildren, her brothers, Stan Slowakiewicz (Jill) and Richard Slowakiewicz (Donna), and by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM all at the Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad Street, Riverton, NJ 08077. Interment will follow at St. Valentine's National Catholic Church Cemetery, 875 Mill Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020
