Joan M.
Byrem
May 16, 1937 — Jun 26, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Joan Byrem, age 87, of Palmyra, NJ. Born in Philadelphia to the late Charles Schultz and Viola Decarro Schultz. Sister of the late Charles (Charlotte), the (late) Margaret Hession and Barbara Gallagher.
Sister-in-law to Evelyn (late Richard), the late Robert Byrem (Flor).
Joan left many nieces and nephews behind whom she served as a strong family matriarch and role model. She had a unique love of art, which she shared with her late niece Theresa, and a love of guidance to all, with early morning coffee chats by the fireplace with her niece Linda, and her lifelong friend Carol, and solved the problems of the world with her pal of 60 years Nancy Myers, over many bottles of wine.
Loving, amazing, devoted wife of 52 years here on earth to Bill, and a total of 64 years and 64 while Bill is in Heaven, they shared a bond that reflected onto their entire family. They laughed often together and cherished their love as a true gift from GOD.
Devoted to her son Dr. William Byrem, (Krys), who she endeared and cared for until his passing. She was grateful to them for giving her the first grandchild.
Loving Mother of Jacqui Berg (Allan) who she was a shining daily light to!
Selfless mom mom, gam-gam to Alex, Hannah, Josh, Madelyn and Angelia, who she cherished and her fuzzy pal whom she is named after… JAZZY.
Joan was deeply loved and admired by many dear friends here on earth and those passed on. She shared a special relationship with her "wine time" time club as they sipped wine on the Delaware River and watched the sailboats & sunsets.
Joan dazzled a room with her presence and spent every day with gratitude, especially her shopping trips with Charlotte and their wine-for-lunch motto.
She shared her generosity with her family and her wisdom and spent quality time with everyone. She was a mentor to her son-in-law Allan whom she was immensely proud of for his recent accomplishments.
Joan was proud of her children's family & marriage commitment to each other and basked in the joy of her grandchildren. Joan in younger years was blessed to travel with friends and had plans to return to Italy. Her lifelong stories and love for her grandmother Antoinette, and her Nan was still apparent, and she talked of them often.
Joan and Bill married in 1960 and moved to Palmyra, New Jersey. They had quite the Columbia Ave crew and again became the house where everyone gathered for dazzling Holiday parties and celebrations.
While her children were very young, Joan had a spark to pursue a career, and after becoming the first female banker in this area, she went to Real Estate School. This journey led her to Lamon Associates and eventually opening Riverline Real Estate right here in Riverton, as a broker. Joan became a real estate tycoon, as we called her, and sold real estate for over 55 years. She was on a mission to house as many families as she could but became a mentor to all. She was awarded Salesperson of the year for many years and in distinct clubs, but she "humbly" accepted these honors.
She would say that through this fabulous job she is working, she would be able to educate her children and give them a better future, travel and be generous to all.
People would often come to her children and declare "Joan Byrem sold me my home" and how it trickled down to generations of families in the area.
Joan will be sadly missed by all, and her home remedies will be remembered, especially the advice that Baileys and Rum Chata can cure an illness.
The sadness in the heart of her daughter will forever remember the special daily talks and the importance of never saying your lucky, but blessed. Her warmth and grace will be felt daily. One of life lessons she taught was it is always better to give than to receive & pray daily.
Joan took ill suddenly with a bottle of Prosecco in hand and a Charcuterie tray on the table. She fought a fierce fight for a week and This strength will penetrate for all eternity.
The heavens opened their skies to welcome this amazing soul and she is home with her Savior, the love of her life Bill, her adoring son Billy, and her special pal Auntie Gay.
