Joan B.
Rippey
Oct 25, 1935 — Jul 27, 2024
Joan B. Rippey (nee Bacon), formerly of Delran and Marlton, NJ, passed away on July 27, 2024.
Joan was born in Philadelphia on October 25, 1935 to Hosea Harris Bacon and Ila Ashton Bacon. She was a graduate of Palmyra High School (1953) and the Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (1956); her nursing skills were relied upon by family and friends. During her tenure as an industrial nurse at RCA Corporation in Moorestown, NJ, she met and married the love of her life, the late Ralph D. Rippey. After his death, she was known to play "I'll be Seeing You" on repeat.
Joan was the beloved mother of Ila Vassallo (John) of Marlton, NJ and Susan Miller (Rick) of Blue Bell, PA, and the devoted grandmother of Thomas and Rachel Vassallo, and Cory Miller. She was predeceased by her cherished sisters Ila Hoff (James) and Betty Diegel (Fred). She is also survived by nieces and nephews James Hoff (Noreen), Ralph Diegel (Jane), Joan Carcillo (Joe), and Rick Diegel (Susannah).
A quiet behind the scenes force, Joan's enthusiasm for planning and attending get togethers resulted in an extended circle of friends. In 2011, she hosted a reunion for her fellow members of the 1952 Palmyra High School Field Hockey Team - the school's first championship for girls' sports. She was an avid reader and bridge player and spearheaded the Tenby Chase Swim Club.
A world traveler with her husband, she spent three years on Kwajalein in the South Pacific, keeping in touch with her dear sisters through letters and recordings on cassette tapes. Above everything, family gatherings were Joan's pride and joy; a practice she instilled in her daughters. A favorite pastime was sharing stories of her childhood and sisters with her grandchildren. Her husband, sisters, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren were always top of mind and in her heart. A devout Episcopalian, she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Riverton, NJ.
Joan will be remembered for her unwavering love for her husband and family, and as a steadfast friend to many. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 4th & Main Street, Riverton, NJ. 08077 or Wiley Christian Retirement Community, 99 E Main St, Marlton, NJ 08053. Funeral services will be private, remembering Joan in the presence of family.
Remembrances and condolences may be shared with her family at www.weberfuneralhomeinc.com Arrangements by the WEBER FUNERAL HOME, Riverton, NJ (856-829-2700).
