Obituary

Joseph Thomas Legista was called home to eternal peace on September 7, 2022 at his residence at Granville Place Assisted Living in Burlington Township, NJ. He was 76 years old.
Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, Joe was a graduate of Malverne High School and Pace University in New York. He served our country as a US Marine in Vietnam from 1963 to 1967 and was awarded a number of service medals. His long career in banking included working for the Royal Bank of Canada in New York City and Atlanta, Georgia. Joe enjoyed reading, gardening and working in his yard. A lover of all animals, he was a "Pied-Piper" of homeless cats and dogs, and with his wife Dorothy, took in and cared for dozens over the years. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a very loving and devoted husband. He was fiercely independent with a gentleness that shined, especially at Granville Place.
Joe was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (nee Woods) Legista. He was pre-deceased by his beautiful and loving wife, Dorothy (nee Augustyn). He is survived by his in-laws, Philip and Maryanne Augustyn, Joseph Augustyn, Marycatherine Augustyn and Margaret Augustyn O'Donnell, as well as nieces and nephews, Alison Hines (Chad), Stephen Augustyn, James Augustyn O'Donnell, Elias Augustyn Sciarillo, Greta Augustyn O'Donnell, Xavier Augustyn Sciarillo, Josie Augustyn O'Donnell and great niece and nephew, Sienna Hines and Nathan Hines.
A celebration of Joe's life to be held at a later date.
