Louis Joseph Marino, age 85, of Delran, NJ passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 7, 2023.
Lou was born and raised in Riverside, NJ to the late Catherine (nee Higgins) and Louis H. Marino and had been a resident of Delran for 57 years. He was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Peter's Church Site, Riverside, and St. Joseph's Church Site, Beverly.
Lou was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1955 to 1963. He spent his career in the food industry where he was a supervisor salesman for Mrs. Smith's Pies for many years. In his retirement, Lou worked as a crossing guard for the Delran School District. He was a fixture in his neighborhood where he was affectionately known as "Poppy Lou" or "Uncle Lou" to many. Lou was the biggest fan of all of the Philly sports teams, but especially loved the Phillies and enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren to the games with him. He was also a longtime member of the Delran Senior Citizens Club, loved playing bingo, going to the casinos and also enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
Lou was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mildred J. Marino "June", and by his daughter and son-in-law, Judi & Jeffrey Brophy. He is survived by his devoted children, Kathy Facciponte and her husband William, Mary Lou Marino-Moyer and her husband Vincent, and Lou Marino, Jr. and his wife Robin; and by his dear grandchildren, Michael Kotlarek, II (Taylor Van Nest), Katharine D. Marino (Justin Ray), Jason A. Kotlarek (Gina), Kelly A. Brophy, Armani Marino, Andrew Marino, Johnathan Marino and great-grandson, Derek J. Ray. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Jane Jerrold Jones and William Jerrold Jones, Helen Simmons and the late Ron, Dennis and Barbara Marino, and Ralph and Beth Cotton, as well as his godson, George Lee, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and by his beloved dog, Patches.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial visitation on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by his funeral service at 11:00 AM, all at the Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad Street (River Rd.), Riverton, NJ 08077. Please wear your favorite Phillies gear to help honor his love for the team!
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lou's memory to the Delran Fire Department, Station 232, 1020 S. Chester Ave., Delran, NJ 08075 would be preferred.
