Dr. Louis S. Ruvolo, MD of Philadelphia, PA, formerly of Riverton, NJ passed away on June 25 th , he was 81.
Lou was born to Frank and Victoria Ruvolo in Bayonne, NJ. He graduated from North Plainfield HS, class of '58 and from the University of Notre Dame in '62. Lou was married to Clara Darcy in 1962, then attended Indiana University Medical School, graduating in '66. After completing an internship at Rhode Island Hospital, Lou served proudly as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. Following his honorable discharge, Lou completed his surgical residency at Albany Medical College Hospital and moved to Cinnaminson in 1973, beginning his surgical career at Lourdes Hospital in Willingboro (formerly Rancocas Valley Hospital), where he served as chief of surgery from 1985 to 2015. He also served as president of the medical staff and served on the Lourdes Hospital Board of Trustees. Lou was awarded the Lourdes Hospital Healing Spirit Award in 2009.
Lou was a longtime member and past president of the Summit Cycling Club and was a competitive cyclist. He also enjoyed gardening, especially growing figs. But, his favorite hobby during his limited downtime was his family.
Lou was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Walters and grandson Daniel Bellonio. He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Ruvolo (nee Darcy), children, Loretta Ruvolo Moore of Savanah, GA, Lou Ruvolo of Turners Falls, MA, grandchildren, Damien Herrigdine, Samantha Potesta, Danielle Caldwell, Rachel Walters, great grandchildren, Cora, Calib, Cooper, Jane, Lana, Brooklyn, siblings, Rosina Cook, Mary McClain, Sal Ruvolo and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewings for Lou will be held on Wednesday, July 6 th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and on Thursday, July 7 th from 9:00am to 11:00am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am, all at Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad St., Riverton, NJ 08077. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ.
