It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine Hornberger, age 70, on October 19, 2026.
Born in Philadelphia to the late Anne and Joseph Hornberger, Mary Catherine was one of six children. She later relocated to Florida with her husband, where she spent much of her life raising her family and building a home filled with love.
Mary Catherine pursued a career in nursing, dedicating many years to caring for others as an oncology nurse. Her compassion extended far beyond her profession. She had a remarkable ability to make those around her feel loved, cared for, and understood.
To know Mary Catherine was to love her. She was a kind and gentle soul whose greatest joy came from her family. Above all, she cherished being a mother and grandmother. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unwavering, and the warmth and kindness she brought into their lives will remain a lasting part of her legacy.
Mary Catherine faced life’s challenges with quiet strength, including the heartbreaking loss of her beloved husband, Dr. Stephen Krathen, far too early in their lives. Despite the hardships she endured, her love for her family remained constant.
She is survived by her four children, Dr. Jonathan Krathen (Dr. Courtney Krathen), Matthew Krathen, Sarah Krathen (Ashley Santoro), and Rachel Ciesla (Matthew); her five beloved grandchildren, four grandsons and one granddaughter; her siblings, John Hornberger, Robert Hornberger, and Joanne Walls; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Hornberger, and sister, Kathleen Lee.
Mary Catherine will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Florida, where they made their home and raised their family. After so many years apart, there is comfort in knowing they will finally rest side by side. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00pm, both at Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad St., Riverton, NJ 08077.
She will be remembered for her kindness, her compassion, and the love she gave so freely. May her memory forever be a blessing.
