Melvin Lotka, age 99, passed away September 7, 2018.
Beloved Husband of his wife Betty. Devoted father of Arlene Domenus (Joseph), loving Grandfather of Joseph (Andrea), Janine (Leo) and Beth (Kenny). Great Grandfather of Jackie, Jillian, Taylor, Erin, and J.J.
Melvin was born in 1919. After he graduated high school he attended Temple University for a year. Shortly afterwards he was employed at the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot in Philadelphia. This was where he met, the love of his life, Betty. They planned to marry in 1943 but, he was drafted into the United States Army, so they decided to get married in 1942. He served in the European theatre primarily, from Normandy, D-Day +3, to the Battle of the Bulge. He earned several medals during his service. He was issued the following awards; Good Conduct, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantry Badge for his actions from 1943-1945. He returned home in 1945.
He was a loving, kind and very funny person. He had a dirty joke for every occasion, especially at dinner. He loved all of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and their families unconditionally.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a Masonic Service at 11:00 and a Funeral Service at 11:15 all at the Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad Street, Riverton, NJ 08077. Burial will be private at Brigadier General William C. Doyle New Jersey Veterans Cemetery.
