Rosemary W. DiTaranto (nee Wagoner), age 99, of Palmyra, NJ passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023.
Born on December 24, 1923 in Shillington, PA to Geneva (nee Mayhew) and Brooke H. Wagoner, Rosemary was one of five children. Rosemary grew up in Shillington, PA where she was an avid tennis player and graduated from Shillington High School. She went on to attend nursing school at Reading Hospital earning her Registered Nurse certification. She moved to New Jersey to take a nursing job at West Jersey Hospital in Camden and soon after, met her husband, Joseph A. DiTaranto, when set up on a blind date with him to attend a dance for the hospital staff. Rosemary and Joe married in 1959, started their family, and were married for 44-years until Joe's passing in 2003. She learned to become an Italian Cook from her sisters-in-law and was known for her delicious traditional Italian meals. In 1961, Rosemary and Joe moved to Palmyra, NJ and lived there ever since.
Rosemary was a longtime and very active parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Riverton where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for the sick, a Catechist, attended daily Mass, and with her devotion to the Virgin Mary helped form the Rosary Guild to recite the Rosary following daily Mass. She was a member of Willing & Able, Catholic Daughters, and a devoted member of the Third Order of Franciscans. She was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and active for many years with the Sheila Kerschbaum Association.
Rosemary also used her nursing skills to serve as the School Nurse at Sacred Heart School, Riverton and Palmyra High School before spending many years working for Dr. Skole at his family practice in Riverside, NJ as a Nurse and X-Ray Technician. In later years, she was very interested in alternative treatments making her own healing salves and serving clients in her practice of Foot Reflexology, Touch-for-Health, Reiki, Massage Therapy and other holistic modalities.
As her daughters were growing up, she was active with the Brownies and Girl Scouts, serving many years as Troop Leader. Rosemary was active in her Bowling League and a founding member and past president of the Bocci League in Cinnaminson. She had many passions in life and was a poet, painter & artist, card player, "pool shark" and music lover. She especially loved flowers and enjoyed spending time in her beautiful yard where she grew award winning roses and enjoyed the many birds and other wildlife that would visit her many feeders.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Joseph A. DiTaranto, Rosemary is survived by her loving children, Marianne C. DiTaranto and her companion Alan Huntley of Chichester, NH, Geneva M. DiTaranto of Palmyra, and Michael J. DiTaranto and his wife Diane of Pemberton, NJ. She is also survived by her dear grandchildren, Hannah, Julianna, Teresa, Catherine, Rosemary, Joseph and Morena, as well as many extended family and close friends. Rosemary was also predeceased by her parents, Geneva and Brooke Wagoner, and her siblings, Jane Simpson, Mildred Chelius, Edward Wagoner and Peter Wagoner.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, and viewing on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Weber Funeral Home, 112 Broad Street, Riverton, NJ 08077 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church Riverton, 4 th Street & Linden Ave., Riverton, NJ 08077. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077.
Since she loved flowers, they are welcome, or donations may be made in her memory to Sacred Heart Church, 103 4 th Street, Riverton, NJ 08077. Remembrances may be shared with her family at www.weberfuneralhomeinc.com
