Obituary

Ryan Patrick Truchel of Palmyra, NJ, passed away on July 25th, 2024, at the age of 43, after a lifelong battle with addiction.

Born on November 22, 1980, in Marlton, NJ, Ryan arrived just a month after the Philadelphia Phillies won their first World Series—a team that remained close to his heart throughout his life. To meet Ryan was to never forget him; he was boisterous, charming, and undeniably handsome.

From a young age, Ryan displayed a natural talent for music, becoming a skilled guitarist who carried his beloved guitars with him wherever he went. As a Pearl Jam superfan, Ryan idolized frontman Eddie Vedder and often emulated him in his own music and lyrics.

Ryan was also a scrappy and competitive athlete, finding success as a forward on his soccer team during his youth. Though school presented challenges, Ryan persevered and proudly graduated from Palmyra High School. As he entered adulthood, Ryan discovered a talent for fixing things with his hands, though his struggles with depression and addiction made it difficult for him to maintain steady work.

Preceded in death by his mother, Gail Truchel, Ryan is undoubtedly being welcomed into her loving embrace. He is survived by his father, John Truchel Sr.; his stepmother, Cindy Miller; his brother, John; step brothers Roy (Melissa) and John (Katherine); his cousin Joe, and his nephews Patton and Porter. He also leaves behind his partner, Helena, along with many cousins.

Ryan's friends and family walked alongside him through the valleys of his addiction and cherished the brief moments of joy when he found sobriety. Over the past year, Ryan's struggles deepened, and his family worried about where he was laying his head each night. Recently returning to New Jersey after a couple of years in Florida, Ryan passed away not far from where his life began.  As we grieve Ryan's passing, we seek solace in knowing that his struggle is over and that, for the first time in a long while, he is finally at rest.

Ryan benefitted many years from the charitable services of The Salvation Army, so in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name at: https://give.salvationarmyusa.org/ Funeral services were held privately.
