Obituary

Sarah S. Lee of Burlington, formerly of Riverside, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on May 24, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born in Florence NJ, Sarah was the beloved daughter of the late Herbert and Mildred Storey. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth, humor, and unconditional love touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Sarah was preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Lapper" Lee, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and adventures together.

Sarah is survived by her cherished children, Bette Kreisler (the late Les), William Lee Jr., Linda Pereira (the late Victor), and George Lee (Bernadette). She was the proud and loving grandmother of Mindy Salmons (Joe Mendez), Steven Salmons, Branden Lee, Alex Pereira, Melanie Pereira, and Rachel Lee. Nothing brought Sarah greater happiness than her growing family, especially her treasured great-grandchildren, David Salmons, Nicole Mendez, Michael Mendez, David Sullivan, Abby Salmons, Jonathan Salmons, and Isaac Salmons. She was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-great-grandchild this July, joking lovingly that she would soon earn the title of "Triple-G."

Sarah is also survived by her siblings, Herbert Storey and Barbara Ortiz. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved siblings Mildred June Marino, Harry Storey, and Mary Storey. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends whom she loved deeply and treated as family.

To know Sarah was to love her. She had a heart big enough for everyone, and people were naturally drawn to her kindness, compassion, and infectious personality. She made everyone feel welcome, cared for, and loved. Her children often said growing up with her was "awesome," because she filled their home with laughter, fun, comfort, and unforgettable memories.

Sarah loved spending evenings cuddled up on the couch with her children watching scary movies, the television show "Dark Shadows," and other classic programs they all enjoyed together. Her home was always filled with family, friends, and laughter. Bette frequently had friends over, and Sarah naturally became like a second mother to many of them.

She shared an especially close and unbreakable bond with her late sister and best friend, June Marino. The two sisters spent countless hours together through the years, and June's children, the late Judy Brophy, June "Kathy" Facciponte, Mary Lou Marino-Moyer, and Louie Marino, were loved by Sarah as though they were her own children.

Sarah truly loved life and enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with the people she cared about most. She loved entertaining family and friends, throwing parties, going to the casino, and playing cards. She faithfully attended bingo several nights each week with her daughter Linda, her late sister June, and her late brother-in-law Louis Marino Sr., creating memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime. Every Thursday became a treasured tradition as she enjoyed breakfast and shopping trips with her daughters.

Her family lovingly recalled the many little traditions and moments that made Sarah so special. Linda would jokingly "pick on" her younger brother Georgie while Sarah laughed and defended her daughter. The family often gathered in the living room playing games where Sarah somehow always managed to come out the winner. One favorite game involved tossing a balled-up sock around the room as quickly as possible while trying to fool the next person. Whoever dropped it was out, and somehow their mother usually remained the last one standing.

Sarah's nurturing spirit showed in everything she did. She lovingly brushed her daughters' hair with "100 strokes" each night, creating simple but cherished memories they carried throughout their lives. She also proudly helped her son George with his crabbing business at Bay Point, where she sorted live crabs and later turned the unsold catch into what the family insists were the best crabs and spaghetti anyone could ever taste.

One of Sarah's favorite pastimes was playing 500 Rummy, especially with her son Billy, with whom she played nearly every day. Billy would often surprise her with a chocolate junior and her favorite lunch a cheeseburger deluxe. She loved good food, good company, and familiar places. She especially enjoyed roast beef and gravy fries at the White Eagle Tavern, and she became a beloved fixture at the Beer Factory, where friends and patrons affectionately considered her everyone's mother.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world. Becoming "GG" was one of her proudest roles in life, and she treasured every moment spent with them. Her love for her family knew no limits, and each generation that followed felt the comfort, warmth, and strength of her presence.

Sarah also formed a very special connection with the residents and staff at Zurbrugg Mansion, where she resided for several years. She cared deeply for those around her, and in return she was loved dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing her there.

There are simply not enough words to fully capture the extraordinary woman Sarah was or the countless lives she touched throughout her 84 years. She was the heart of her family, the person everyone turned to for comfort, laughter, advice, and love. Her family takes comfort knowing she is reunited with her beloved husband Lapper once again, and anyone who knew the two of them knows "what a pair they were."

Sarah will be remembered always for her beautiful heart, her unwavering love for family, her sense of humor, her generosity, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Though she will be deeply missed beyond words, the memories she created and the love she gave so freely will live on forever in the hearts of all who loved her.

A celebration of life for Sarah will be held on June 20, 2026, at The Zurbrugg Mansion, 531 Delaware Avenue, Delanco, NJ 08075 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
