Obituary

Stanley Grynkewicz passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31st at home.  If he could have his own front page headline (which he should)  it would be "JUMPED OUT OF A PLANE FOR HIS COUNTRY AND HELPED SEND MANKIND TO THE MOON." Much of his life's work was top secret, but even the little we know was exceptional.  From a young age he was fascinated by invention and in college patented one of the first delay switches eventually used for car windshield wipers. Despite his fear of flying, he proudly served in the Army as a paratrooper where he was the deserving recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He then went on to become an aerospace engineer. He even worked on one of NASA's first lunar landers. He was a bit of a recluse and a consummate tinkerer, his California home was filled with all sorts of homemade contraptions from oscilloscopes to battery testers. Despite sounding like a bit of a mad-scientist, Stanley had a way about him that was gentle and sweet; he loved animals, especially his cats, and his smile lit up a room.  He enjoyed nature and biking, and was an avid sports fan, (Go Dodgers!) car aficionado and race horse fanatic. In his later years he moved back to the East Coast to be closer to family, and was lovingly cared for by his niece Jessica and her husband Jack.  Stanley was predeceased by his parents Katherine and Constante, his sister Grace, and his nephew Scott.  Missing him already in his adoring family are his sister Elaine (Jack), his nieces and nephews: Jim(Terry), Alisa, Jessica (Jack), Lauren (Ed), and Jacquelyn (Arvind), a host of great-nephews and nieces: Bonnie (Keith), Samantha (Shawn), Sean (Jaclyn), Sam, Christina (Angelo), Katherine (Tom), Jack, Kaitlyn, Katie (Ernie), and Stephen,  a swarm of great-great nieces and nephews, and all of his friends throughout the years. Stanley leaves behind a large legacy in his family of intellect, inquisitiveness, avid collecting, and unconditional compassion. We hope that anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him takes a piece of that with them in his honor.
