Obituary

The Honorable Terrence Michael McStravick, Sr.

July 18, 1942 – January 27, 2021

Terry was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to Eileen R. and James T. McStravick, the oldest of four (4). He is survived by his wife and love Eileen M. McStravick (Bernhardt), and his three children Eileen (Lee Collings), her husband Douglas, Terrence Jr. (T.J.), and Patrick and his wife Mary Anne. He was "Pop" to three grandchildren, Damon, Jack and Eamon, who he had a significant role in raising. He is further survived by his brother James and sister Ellen (Larsen). He was predeceased by his mother, father and brother Edmund.

Terry served honorably in both the Navy from 1964-1968, and the Army National Guard from the late 70s to the early 90s.

Terry graduated from North Catholic High School. He went on to graduate from Villanova University and then the Temple School of Law.

After passing the bar and practicing as an attorney, Terry sat as a Judge of the United States Merit Systems Protection Board for over forty (40) years before retiring.

Terry loved to read, and had a book collection to prove it. He was the best Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit player you ever met. He loved animals, especially dogs, even if they were not his own. He had a thousand expressions and colloquialisms, which he used often, and had sarcastic wit which was never mean. Pop loved to go to the pool but hated to swim, preferring to people watch – particularly in Aruba. He loved to play cards with his friends and family. He had a deep love of film and television, especially films and television shows from the 1940-50. He also enjoyed Classical and Jazz music.

Terry loved his wife, children, and grandchildren, and sacrificed his time and effort on making their lives better. He was an intelligent and kind man with an easy disposition, and he will be sorely and deeply missed by all who know him.

Due to COVID-19, the services were held privately. A life celebration will be held at a later time.
