Toshii Shimoda Moore, 90, passed peacefully on July 18 in Willow Street, PA near the home she shared with her husband of 55 years, Richard C. Moore, until his passing in 2017.
Toshii was born in Muroran, Japan on Sept. 21, 1928 to Kuniyoshi and Hisae Shimoda. She was the youngest of 4 children, preceded by her brother, Hiroyuki Shimoda, and two sisters, Ayako Korii, and Yutaka Kikuchi. Toshii attained a bachelor's degree in English from Aoyama University in Tokyo, Japan, before returning to her alma mater, Hokusei Gakuen Diagaku in Sapporo, Japan, to teach. She left teaching to pursue a Master's degree in Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary where she met her future husband whom she married in 1961.
After serving a congregation in Galeton, PA, for 3 years they moved to Riverton, NJ where they raised two sons and ministered to the congregation of Calvary Presbyterian Church for 27 years.
They enjoyed a very active retirement in Hampton, VA for 10 years before relocating to Willow Valley in Willow Street, PA. Toshii is especially remembered for her kindness, love of music, and giving personality.
She is survived by her older son, Steven Moore, his wife, Patricia DeVito, their 3 children, Donovan, Veronica, and Nathanael and by her younger son, Bill Moore and his partner, Bill Van Nostrand.
A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 4th and Lippincott Avenues, Riverton, NJ on Saturday, August 10th, at 11 a.m.
